PI Sanders specializes in environmental hydrodynamics and leads the Modeling Team. His lab has been at the forefront of flood modeling and water quality research in California, most notably in previous NSF-funded flood modeling work. This prior support has enabled Sanders to develop a flood model that predicts location, depth, and speed of flooding at a resolution in the range of 2-10 meters in urban areas. Building on an existing two-year collaboration with the Sanders lab supported by the UC Center for Hydrologic Modeling (UCCHM), co-PI-Famiglietti will integrate global-scale climatological and hydrological predictions into the parcel-level modeling.
